The Save Media Art, abbreviated as SMA, was established in 2018 by individuals such as Yuhsien Chen, Tzuchuan Lin, and members of the Digital Art Foundation, including Powei Wang and Wenhao Huang. Led by the two core members, Chen and Lin, it is a grassroots project that focuses on the acquisition, management, sustainable preservation, and conservation of technology-based art (new media/digital art/time-based media art) in Taiwan. To date, it has been supported annually by the Taiwan National Culture and Arts Foundation and is now in its fourth phase. The SMA project excels in its role as an independent entity not affiliated with any specific collecting institution. Each phase of the project collaborates with third-party organizations and utilizes various formats such as curation, lectures, workshops, and more. Through cooperation with different roles in the contemporary art ecosystem, the project aims to explore the significance of technology-based art preservation in the context of contemporary art and museum environments, while also considering the inherent characteristics of technology and digital media.
